Internet Comes Together to Save Stray Kitten Found Covered in Glue

A heartwarming tale of rescue and compassion has captured the hearts of many this week as a 27-year-old from the Philippines, known as "Nakedness," shared updates on her adopted kitten, Coco.

The tiny kitten was found abandoned near an apartment building, covered in a sticky, glue-like substance. Initially, the rescuer believed Coco was covered in oil and planned to clean her before returning her to the streets. However, a kind neighbor revealed the heartbreaking truth: children had been playing with Coco over the weekend, leaving her coated in glue.

Faced with the challenge of removing the glue without harming the kitten, Ikedness turned to the internet for advice. After some research and guidance from Reddit’s r/cats community, she discovered that soaking the fur in vegetable oil could help. While this method removed most of the glue, some remained stubbornly stuck to Coco's skin.

Following additional advice from Redditors, Ikedness used coconut oil and a soft sponge to gently clean the kitten. Hours of careful brushing finally removed 99 percent of the glue, leaving Coco free from the sticky substance that had matted her fur

Coco’s story sheds light on the harsh realities faced by feral cats around the world. In the U.S. alone, it is estimated that between 60 and 100 million feral cats live on the streets. These animals often face short and difficult lives, battling contagious diseases such as feline AIDS, leukemia, and herpes. Without access to veterinary care, even treatable conditions can become life-threatening.

Despite her difficult start, Coco is now thriving in her new home. Thanks to the support of online cat lovers and the local veterinary community, Coco has received the care she desperately needs.

"I couldn't have done half of this without the r/cats community," said Ikedness. "From advice to donations and endless kindness, they helped Coco and me every step of the way."

Now, Coco is growing stronger every day. Her new owner reports that she has a healthy appetite, a normal temperature, and plenty of energy to play and explore.

Coco's story serves as a reminder of the power of compassion and the importance of providing care for stray animals. For those who encounter a stray cat, experts advise approaching with caution and taking steps to locate the animal's owner, such as posting messages in the neighborhood or checking for a microchip at a local veterinary clinic.

Adopting a stray cat is a big responsibility. Dr. José Arce, a former president of the American Veterinary Medical Association, emphasizes the need to consider the time, resources, and commitment required to care for a cat throughout its life.

With a loving home and plenty of care, Coco’s future is bright. Her story is a testament to the difference a little kindness can make in the life of an animal in need. From abandoned and covered in glue to thriving and playful, Coco’s journey has inspired countless people and reminded the world of the power of love and compassion.

As for Coco, she now has a forever home with Ikedness, who said, "She will stay with me. It feels amazing to have been part of her transformation.
